Work-Study
The
Work-Study Program
Work-study provides eligible students another means of meeting their financial obligations to the university. It is a beneficial program that allows students to gain valuable experience and networking opportunities.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible students must:
-
complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current academic
year;
-
have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0
scale;
-
be enrolled at least half-time in a
degree-seeking program (6 or more credit hours);
-
demonstrate financial need.
Note: DNIMAS students and resident
assistants are not eligible for work-study.
Work-Study
Program
The work-study program allows eligible students to be
awarded either federal or institutional work-study.
Institutional work-study excludes employment from the
following departments:
- athletics;
- housing;
- student activities;
- parking;
band.
If your financial aid award letter indicates that you
have been awarded federal or institutional work-study
notification will be sent to you informing you of a
mandatory workshop that will further inform you of your
duties as a work-study recipient. The awarded student
has the responsibility of finding and securing campus
employment. Various offices and departments around
campus will post their available openings to the
campus
employment website.
Campus Employment
Once a student finds campus employment, a job assignment
packet must be obtained from the supervisor and
completed by both the student and the supervisor. All
documents MUST be returned to the Financial Aid Office
prior to the student's first day of work.
Students can work up to 20 hours per week (up to 6 hours
per day) during the academic year. Students are paid
biweekly on Friday at hourly rates based upon their
classification. Work-study checks can be retrieved from
the Cashier's Office in Wilson Hall (M-F 8:30 am - 4:30
pm).

Freshmen $6.00
Sophomores $7.00

Dismissal from Work-Study Program
Please note that the forging of timesheets is considered falsification of a legal document. Any student who falsifies a time sheet by adding time or signing the name of a college representative will be dismissed from the work-study program and be responsible for paying back any monies which may have been issued.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is work-study not
counted toward my tuition balance?
A: Work-study funds are paid out only when the student works the contracted
hours. Since situations could arise which prevent you from working the
contracted hours, we cannot rely on those funds as accounts receivable. However,
since the checks will be made payable to you, you have the option of using those
funds to pay on your account.
Q: Now that I know that I have been awarded work-study,
what should I do next?
A: Once you receive notification of your work-study award, you must find a
work-study position on campus, attend a mandatory student orientation, and
interview for the position.
Q: Where can I work on campus?
A: To view available work-study positions, go to the Campus Employment
website.
Q: When does work-study start?
A: You can begin work only after you have attended the mandatory
workshop. Notification will be sent to inform you of the dates, time, and
location of the workshop.
Q: What are they types of work-study funds?
A: There are federal and institutional work-study funds. If you have been
awarded federal funds, you may work wherever there is a vacancy. However, if you
were awarded institutional funds, you may not work in the following departments:
athletics, housing, student activities, parking, and band.
Q: Can my friend and I work at the same location?
A: You and your friend may work at the same location provided that both of you
are awarded the same type of work-study funds (institutional work-study funds
are restricted, and federal work-study funds are not), and the department has
enough openings.
Q: Do I need to bring a resume´ or anything else?
A: You will need to bring identification for employment verification. It is a
good idea to prepare a resume´ as some departments may request one.
