Toni F. Dixon
Recruitment and Retention


Mrs. Dixon received a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology from Norfolk State University. Her career with the state of Virginia has spanned over 12 years. She served for five years as the Senior Regional Resource Manager for the Cooperating Hampton Roads Organizations for Minorities in Engineering (CHROME). CHROME is a coveted pre-college program which encourages K-12 students to pursue careers in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, and Technology. In 1997, Mrs. Dixon was a member of the CHROME team which received a Presidential Award signed by President William J. Clinton at the White House for Outstanding Mentorship in the areas of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering. She is the creator of the CHROME GEMS (Girls Excited about Mathematics and Science) Program, a summer program for middle and high school students, which gives them the opportunity to study in a same gender environment. She served for seven years as Student Development Coordinator with the federally funded pre-college program, Upward Bound, where she served the region’s underrepresented population, high school students who are first-generation college and/or low income. Mrs. Dixon holds professional memberships in the Virginia Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (VAEOPP), Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MEAEOPP), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She has been Director of Recruitment and Retention for the Department of Engineering since the summer of 2007.
