Dr. Aswini K. Pradhan

Brief Biography

Dr. Aswini K. Pradhan received MS from the Utkal University and Ph.D. in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology. He served as a senior scientist at Center for Advanced Technology, India. Dr. Pradhan worked as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Virginia Commonwealth University and also at University of Virginia for one year each. Before all these appointments, he spent many years at Superconductivity Research Laboratory, ISTEC (Tokyo), Japan as a senior research scientist. Dr. Pradhan was a visiting Professor in the Department of Applied Physics, University of Tokyo, and has also spent several years as a Research Fellow at Oxford University, U.K. Dr. Pradhan is involved in several review processes, including internationally reputed journals and proposals. He is a recipient of several projects from NSF, Intel corp. etc. His major interest is the development of optical, magnetic, electronic and nanomaterials for various device applications. At present, he is involved in development of opto-electronic, magnetic and nano-structured materials for various applications. Dr. Pradhan joined Norfolk State University in 2003 at Center for Materials Research and Department of Optical Engineering in 2007.

Research Interest
Areas of research interests are:
  • Semiconductor films, multilayers and quantum dots for light-emitting diodes, diode lasers, detectors and sensors
  • Magnetic/Electronic Oxide multilayers and nanocrystalline films for high-density memory, ultra-sensitive magnetic sensors, quantum computation and multifunctional devices
  • Development of novel nanomaterials for photovoltaic, sensor and biomedical applications
  • State-of-the-art growth of various Opto-electronic thin films, understanding physical phenomena through characterizations and fabrication of devices for novel functionalities meeting the demand of cutting-edge technology
