Dr. Mead

Brief Biography

Patricia F. Mead, Ph.D., joined the faculty of Norfolk State University as Professor of Optical Engineering in Summer 2004. She previously served as Senior Program Officer in Engineering Education at the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Washington, DC, where she successfully completed three policy studies, including The Engineer of 2020: Visions of Engineering in the 21st Century, a forward looking examination of the engineering profession and its role in society. Prior to her term at the National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Mead served on the graduate faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, where in 1997, Dr. Mead received the prestigious NSF Faculty Early CAREER Award in recognition of her combined research and educational activities. Dr. Mead has conducted extensive on packaging and reliability of optoelectronic devices, including semiconductor optical components and fiber optic interconnects. She has conducted several studies involving fiber lasers and other solid state laser systems. Dr. Mead has also continued to pursue scholarly research efforts in assessment for engineering education applications.
