Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering at Norfolk State University is designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for successful professional careers in engineering; to encourage innovation, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit; to instill a sense of community responsibility; and to develop leaders for a technology-driven global society.

The Department of Engineering offers ABET accredited B.S. degrees in both Electronics Engineering and Optical Engineering. The department also offers M.S. degrees in Electronics Engineering and Optical Engineering.

General Departmental Requirements

All students must complete the University's General Education requirements to qualify for the Bachelor of Science Degree. Additionally, the department requires that all majors:

1. Meet pre-requisites or their equivalent before enrolling in engineering courses.
2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in all Mathematics, Science, and Engineering courses
3. Successfully complete a Senior research project

 Research Facilities

There are several instruction, hands-on, and experimental labs that are available for engineering students. Each lab is used for educational purposes and is fully supervised by an accredited laboratory safety certified staff member. The labs that we have that are for experimental purposes are as follows:

  • Optical Engineering Implementation Laboratory
  • Electrical Engineering Implementation Laboratory
