ADMINISTRATION

Norfolk State University is building a framework that will help shift e-learning to the mainstream, and in such a way as to maximize its impact on those classes meeting in traditional face-to-face environments. Given that e-learning is an evolving activity that has already improved the overall student experience at NSU, there is a case for continued growth and investment in making it a dynamic and meaningful learning environment that incorporates best practices, standards and policies:

• Disseminate best practices and lessons-learned to stimulate innovation and to scale-up successful programs and initiatives.
• Encourage appropriate staff development --collectively and individually—in order to ensure progress at the institutional level.
• Support research and development of curriculum design and content for degree programs
• Adhere to industry established standards for online curriculum and content delivery..

NSU takes into account the importance of academic autonomy and diversity and avoids micro-managing change. A clear strategic plan and direction, including a suitable timeframe for the development is ongoing and will ensure valid benchmarks and directions. It is also recognized that patience is a key condition to any capacity-building policy. The Office of eLearning is positioning itself to transform teaching and learning at NSU so that they are consistent with the life-forces and learning styles in our contemporary world.
