A baccalaureate degree from a regionally
accredited college or university
A foreign student should possess equivalent
credentials.
A minimum overall undergraduate grade point
average (GPA) of 2.7 on a four (4) point scale
A complete application file will include the
following:
An application to Norfolk State University and
the Early Childhood/Elementary and Special
Education Program
Non-refundable application fee (certified check
or money order made payable to Norfolk State
University)
Three letters of recommendation from persons of
professional/ supervisory status who are
familiar with the applicant’s background and
potential to pursue rigorous academic study at
the graduate level
An official copy of the complete transcript(s)
from each college and/or university attended
Personal statement of professional interest and
goals
The personal statement is an important part of
the application for admission and should be
carefully prepared. It should also include a
discussion of the individual’s philosophy of
teaching that addresses the role of culture and
its implications for educating citizens not only
to compete in the global marketplace, but also
to collaborate in the global village.
The department reserves the right to request a
personal interview with the applicant if it is
deemed necessary. The applicant may also request
an interview.
All application materials should be received by
March 1 for consideration in the fall, March 1
for the summer, and by October 1 for
consideration in the spring. See more
