Educating & Mentoring by Reaching All Cultures
Educationally
A
Personnel Preparation Grant which targets and prepares
African American, Hispanic, and Filipino educators,
especially males, to obtain a Master of Arts Degree in
Pre-Elementary Education with a specialization in Early
Childhood Special Education.
A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO EMBRACE
DIVERSITY!
According to the Virginia Department of Education’s
Report on Supply and Demand of Instructional Personnel in
Virginia (1999-2000), early childhood special education has
been identified as one of several areas with severe
shortages.
While African American and Hispanic children continue to
represent the majority in many special education classrooms,
there remains a critical shortage of culturally and
linguistically competent teachers.
Project EMBRACE will alleviate the critical
shortage of African American, Hispanic, and Filipino
(especially male) teachers in classrooms for children with
disabilities who have the necessary knowledge, skills,
attitudes and understanding of culturally and linguistically
diverse young children with disabilities.
It is truly an opportunity for African American, Hispanic
and Filipino educators to:
- Make a difference in many lives while they build a
solid future for themselves and their families
- Receive mentoring from an advisory board of leading
African American, Hispanic and Filipino professionals
- Enjoy comprehensive individualized advisement during
their matriculation
