Student Success Triad:
Research, Assessment, and Curriculum Development
A Model for Praxis Preparation

Preparing Competent, Compassionate, Cooperative and Committed Leaders
The Student Success
Triad: Research, Assessment and Curriculum Development, a
Title III activity is designed to improve the Praxis scores
for pre-service teacher education candidates. The Virginia
State Department of Education has put in place policies
that require pre-service teacher education candidates to
pass Praxis I with a composite score of 532 (computer based)
and 973 (paper/pencil).
The goal of this project is to develop a model that can be
replicated among other teacher education programs at
Historically Black Colleges and Universities that will
assist teacher education candidates in passing the Praxis
examination. This will in turn address the critical shortage
of minority teachers in public school systems.
Praxis I Exam Preparation
Plan
The Student Success Triad's Praxis I Exam Preparation
Program consists of an initial evaluation using a pre-test
and personal interview. After initial testing and
evaluation, a personalized test preparation plan is
developed for each student.
Purpose
The purpose of the test
preparation plan is to focus on each weakness and transform
them into strengths. Instructors and students work as a team
in exclusivity and hourly sessions in the designated Praxis
preparation lab. The most import feature of the preparation
plan is the individualized and personalized approach that
blends computer-aided tutorials with one-on-one tutoring and
small group basic skills development workshops.
