Vision Statement
To evolve into a comprehensive, fully integrated and staffed marketing and
public relations agent for Norfolk State University enabling the Office of
Communications and Marketing to more effectively and efficiently elevate the
university’s brand, position Norfolk State University as a quality competitor,
promote the University’s mission, its excellent academic programs, its students,
fine teaching and administrative staff.
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Office of Communications and Marketing to advance the
University’s mission by:
- Continuously seeking out opportunities to promote the
University’s internal programs, services, faculty, staff and students
- Positioning NSU to compete for academically strong
students
- Elevating the university’s reputation for excellent
financial stewardship and raising this profile among corporate, foundation,
and individual donors
- Identifying, establishing and maintaining internal and
external partnerships that enhance the University’s communication system and
the exchange of information with its constituents
- Establishing a comprehensive communications program to
continuously educate and cultivate alumni support, and to foster a sense of
community and commitment to the University
Objectives Include:
- To develop a proactive public relations and marketing
communications program that will increase the visibility and profile of
Norfolk State University
- To raise awareness of the university's brand and protect
the integrity of the university logo
- To increase awareness of the university’s faculty,
students, academic programs, etc.
- To enhance external communications with NSU’s stakeholders
- To build media relationships among local, regional &
national media
- To position NSU faculty as experts for media to use in
their research
- To promote faculty and student achievements in education
The Communications and Marketing department also serves as a clearinghouse
for publications, public announcements and the coordination of some of the
university's marketing projects. We are responsible for media relations, crisis
communications, developing overall University communications planning, public
relations planning and promotion of special events. Our office also helps to
establish and maintain relationships with the University's alumni, retirees,
supporters, and other potential constituents throughout the greater community.
