Greetings from the Office of
Communications & Marketing
Effective January 3, 2007, as the first part of President Meyers' realignment
and refocusing plan, the offices of News and Media Relations and Marketing
Services were combined to form a new department now called the Office of
Communications and Marketing. As the acting executive director for this new
department, I am both excited and humbled by the challenges facing
Communications and Marketing.
I want to take this opportunity to reassure the Norfolk State University
community that we will work tirelessly to tell the NSU story within the Hampton
Roads region, the Commonwealth, and nation.
In order to do an effective job of communicating to various NSU audiences, we
need your help. We cannot tell the NSU story alone. To that end, please tell us
about your department’s achievements. We want to hear about your successes, your
wins, your grants, your research, your teaching, your fellowships – your story.
The NSU story is ultimately a collection of our collective experiences,
traditions, history, and achievements.
Sharon R. Hoggard, Acting Executive Director Communications & Marketing
What We Do
The Office of Communications and Marketing supports the University’s mission
and strategic plan by building public support and understanding by implementing
a comprehensive communications and marketing plan.
The plan incorporates the effective use of mass communications tools and
marketing tactics among which include producing several educational and
informational publications. The Communications and Marketing team promotes the
university’s goals through the release of timely information regarding the
activities of its students, faculty, and staff. The department accomplishes this
through working with the news media, publishing a university newsletter, annual
report, university magazine and creating internal and external partnerships that
help tell the NSU story.
