Welcome to the School of Business
at Norfolk State University. I'm glad you're visiting
our website as it gives me the opportunity to tell you a
little about the School and its people. But first I'd
like to give you some perspective on why you're here.
You're probably here because you are about to make
one of the more important decisions of your life: Which
business school to attend. Will it be an easy decision?
No way! Nor should it be. That's because the degree you
earn, the institution from which you earn it, and what
you learn along the way will be with you for the rest of
your professional life. My advice: Do your research,
choose the right school, and reap the rewards for years
to come. As much as I love Norfolk State, and as much as
I'd like to have you join us, I only want enthusiastic
and happy students. That's right, learning and growing
should be fun. Hard work? Of course. But enjoyable and
rewarding? You bet! Thus, I want you to consider the
"fit" of the schools you're considering with your
preferred learning style. Take the time to meet each
school's professors. Get to know a few of their
students. Speak with alumni. Did the education they
received help them to realize their dreams? At a time
when fewer than one in a hundred of the world's six
billion people have a college degree, you're among the
very lucky ones. So do your homework, choose wisely, and
savor the experience. Now, a little about us.
Norfolk State's School of Business we enroll over 900
baccalaureate students in six areas of concentration:
Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management,
Marketing, and Computer Information Systems. We're proud
of our programs, and the School has distinguished itself
in a number of ways. NSU was one of the nation's first
Historically Black Colleges and Universities to have its
business school accredited by AACSB-International, the
field's premier accrediting body. AACSB accreditation
serves as the hallmark of excellence in business
education. We remain the region's only AACSB-accredited
business school to offer a concentration in
Entrepreneurship, and we are the first HBCU anywhere to
have an Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program. Housed in the
School's Ernest M. Hodge Center for Entrepreneurship,
the EIRP enables our students to serve as consultants to
prospective entrepreneurs as well as to actual for- and
not-for-profit businesses seeking growth opportunities
in the Hampton Roads area. In the case of the former,
students assist hopeful entrepreneurs as they perform
market research, develop business plans, investigate
sources of financing, and launch their new ventures. In
the latter instance, guided by clients' senior
executives and NSU faculty, EIRP students develop
solutions to today's complex business problems and
present their recommendations to management. Our other
concentrations are equally engaging, and account for the
fact that NSU ranks in the top ten universities
nationwide for the number of business degrees conferred
upon African Americans.
At the School of Business we
are committed to offering programs that serve the needs
of today's students in tomorrow's economy. We are
equally dedicated to preparing them for leadership roles
in society. To meet our commitments, the School of
Business focuses on excellence in teaching and learning.
Nothing is more important than what happens in our
classrooms. Our faculty members engage in scholarly and
practice-oriented research, benefit from ongoing
professional development, and are involved on a regular
basis with the business community. It is the faculty's
dedication to life-long learning and the delivery of
leading-edge content that ensures our students a
state-of-the-art education.
I invite you to explore
our programs and to visit the Norfolk State University
campus, and I welcome your questions.
Sincerely,
|
