Research Interests

Suk-hee Kim, Ph.D., recipient of the 2008 Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology. The awards were presented at a special ceremony held at the Nineteenth International Conference on College Teaching and Learning in Jacksonville, Florida, April 16, 2008. A complete list of this year’s award recipients can be found at the conference Website at www.teachlearn.org . This study was based on studies funded by Title III Activity Enhancing Student Access to Technology at the Norfolk State University. The award recipient recognizes the Office of Information Technology.

Suk-hee Kim, Ph.D. has presented a research paper, “The Global Security Perspective on the Effects of Executive Cognitive Function on Complex Behavioral Screening Intervention and HIV/AIDS” and served as discussion leader at The 20th Anniversary Oxford Round Table: Global Security, Civilization at Risk: Seeds of Strife on March 16 to March 21, 2008 in the Oxford University, England, U.K. This paper presentation funded by The Center for Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences (CBBS), Norfolk State University and NIH Center Grant # 5P20MD001822-03 in Virginia, U.S.A. Research Interests

Dr. Suk-hee Kim has served at Norfolk State University since 2005, and is currently a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Faculty of The Center for Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences, and Chair of Scholarship Program of the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work. She is also a Co-Chair of Research Advisory Board at Norfolk State University.

Dr. Kim’s areas of professional interest are Neuroscience in Social Work; Executive Cognitive Functions (ECF) of HIV/AIDS Clients; Family and Child Welfare in Social Work; Diversity and Social Work; Aging and Gerontology in Social Work; International Social Work; Mental Health Issues among Ethnic Elderly Population; Mental Health and Social Service Delivery System; Mental Health and Substance Abuse; Minority Health and Domestic Violence; Public Health and Social Work; Practice Based and Evidence Based Research in Primary Care Clinics; Psychiatric and Geriatric Social Work and Supervision; Program Evaluation; Rehabilitation in Social Work; Real Time Research in Primary Care Practice; Scale and ECF Screening Tool Development; Social Work Research and Technology; and Social Work and Social Service of ECF and HIV/AIDS.

For the past several years, she has explored technological innovations affecting social work research and social work education. Recent publications and presentations have focused on neuroscience in social work research with minority populations in primary care medical settings. Dr. Kim currently teaches webenhenced classes in Social Work Research Methods and Design I and II; Social Work Practice and Program Evaluation; Advanced Social Work Research Methods II; Multivariate Analysis and Statistical Analysis; International Social Work; and Human Behavior and Social Environment in the Doctoral, Master and Baccalaureate Programs. She also served as Doctoral Dissertation Chair and a Dissertation Committee in the Doctoral Program in Social Work.

She has received Awards for her Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology in 2008 at Norfolk State University and the Boyer International Award at International Conference on College Teaching and Learning in 2008. She is also a nominee for State Council of Higher Education in Virginia Award. Dr. Kim currently is engaged research in Neuroscience and Social Work, HIV/AIDS in Social Work, Gerontology in Social Work, Teaching with Technology in Social Work, and Real Time Research in Medical Settings. Before joining Norfolk State University she worked under the Research Fellowship of the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine in the Gheen Center on Aging at Medical School of University of Louisville.
