Research Interests

My interest in speech, language and hearing stems from an experience I had working with aphasic patients while working in high school as a volunteer at a rehabilitation hospital in Chicago. I followed this interest by pursuing different degrees in speech and hearing sciences.

I serve as the Coordinator of the Department's Communication Sciences and Disorders Program, and Director of the University’s Hearing, Speech, Language, and Literacy Center. I have over 35 years of professional experience in the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology. I teach courses in speech and voice science, hearing science, aural rehabilitation, rehabilitation theory and practice, and public speaking. Additionally, I have been funded over the years to conduct research in the areas of voice acoustics, speech and hearing sciences.

I belong to the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the National Black Association for Speech, Language and Hearing (NBASLH). I am currently the Chair of the NBASLH.
