Research Interest

We are a part of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at Old Dominion University. Our research spans a wide range of topics including:

  • physical electronics;
  • computational bio-electrics including ion channels and neural stimulation;
  • molecular dynamics;
  • semiconductor transport;
  • high-field, non-equilibrium processes;
  • electrical breakdown in solid dielectrics, liquids and gases, etc.

Our research broadly encompasses modeling and simulations of charge transport, non-equilibrium phenomena, and bio-electrics. Our group has also has used Monte Carlo methods for simulations of high-field transport in bulk and quantum well semiconductors. We also apply molecular dynamics simulations to probe electric-field driven process at cell membranes, including electroporation, Calcium release, and effects of voltage stimulation on the propagation of neural signals. We have authored over 110 journal publications, and over 150 conference papers and presentations. I have been a visiting scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Philips Laboratory, Motorola and NASA Goddard. I have served as a guest editor for two special issues of the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, and am a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

 Further details on our research projects, publications, student members etc. are available at: http://www.lions.odu.edu/~rjoshi/
