Women's Volleyball

Roberts had a match-high 17 kills and a match-high-tying 15 digs in the Spartans’ 3-1 win over Hampton last Wednesday...in the last home match of her career, Roberts hit .345 and had one assist, while averaging 4.25 kills per set...she also averaged 3.25 digs per set in the win.

Carey picked off two passes and returned the second one 94 yards for a touchdown in NSU's 35-9 win over Morgan State last week...it was the second two-interception of Carey's career...his first interception game on the goal line as the Bears' were going in for a first-half score...led a Spartan defense which forced a season-high seven turnovers.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women’s basketball team travels to Williamsburg, Va. on Thursday to take on the Tribe of William & Mary. Tip-off is at 7p.m. at Kaplan Arena.

NSU is coming off a 0-2 weekend after playing at the University of Miami and Stetson. The Hurricanes beat the Spartans 91-42, while the Hatters posted an 84-70 victory. Through two games, freshman guard Marquilla Evans leads the team in scoring (16.5 ppg) and is second in rebounding (5.5 rpb). Sophomore forward Danelle Tate is averaging a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 12.5 points per game.

Corey Lyons scored 25 points and made a career-high six 3-pointers at Longwood.

FARMVILLE, Va.Michael Deloach (Rocky Mount, N.C.) recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Corey Lyons (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as the Norfolk State men’s basketball team won its season-opener, 81-74, over Longwood at Willett Hall on Sunday night.

DELAND, Fla. — Freshman guard Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) scored a game- and career-high 22 points, but it was not enough as the Norfolk State women’s basketball team fell 84-70 to Stetson on Sunday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Evans, one of the four true freshmen who started the game, added five rebounds, a team-high five assists, two steals and one block in 38 minutes. Sophomore Danelle Tate (Stafford, Va.) was the fifth starter.

DELAND, Fla. — The Norfolk State women’s basketball teams takes on Stetson University at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Edmunds Center.

NSU (0-1) dropped its first game of the season with a 91-42 loss to the University of Miami on Friday afternoon at the BankUnited Center. Miami (1-0) controlled every aspect of the game, shooting 45.5 percent (35-of-77) from the floor for the game, forcing 29 turnovers and outrebounding NSU 60-27. Danelle Tate led NSU with 12 points and seven rebounds and freshman Marquilla Evans had 11 points and six boards.

NORFOLK, Va. — Jaashawn Jones’ 1-yard touchdown run with 26 seconds left capped a furious Delaware State Rally, and the Hornets defeated Norfolk State for the sixth straight time, 34-28 on Saturday afternoon at Dick Price Stadium.

The game was eerily similar to last year’s game between the teams, with DSU (4-6, 4-3 MEAC) rallying from an 18-point second-half deficit to steal a game that NSU (4-7, 3-5) appeared to have in hand.

NORFOLK, Va. - The NSU men's basketball team opens its 2008-09 season on Sunday night when it travels to Longwood University in Farmville, Va. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Willett Hall.

The Spartans return two starters and eight letterwinners from last year's team that went 16-15 for the program's first winning record in nine years.
