Female Mentoring Program

Leaders in Academia Dedicated to Impacting and Empowering Self (LADIES)

The Female Mentoring Program (LADIES) is designed to promote the overall academic and social development in female students at Norfolk State University. This program fosters an understanding of appreciation for the uniqueness of womanhood and women's societal roles. Moreover, the program is designed to develop leadership skills in female students and to promote and facilitate student success.

Goals and Objectives

Promote and facilitate student success
Improve retention and graduation rates
To foster positive relationships between students, and faculty/staff
Develop leadership skills in female students
Foster an understanding of an appreciation for the uniqueness of womanhood and the women’s societal roles

Mentoring Strategies

a source of support and guidance
regular meetings in which specific issues and ideas can be discussed and developed
a chance to explore teaching and learning in a non-assessed and non-threatening environment
connect students to services and resources at NSU
make suggestions on how to balance academic and social life
advise students on how to manage time, and deal with stress

provide tips on study skills and share academic "success strategies"
assist with establishing goals, as well as identifying strategies to accomplish these goals
encourage mutually relationships between faculty/staff and undergraduate students
