Payment Methods

“Regular Pay”

Check is issued after each month is completed. See Monthly Attendance Verification to receive payment for Chapter 30 and 1606 benefits.

“Advance Pay”

Advance payment is made for the first partial and first full month of attendance. Advance payment of educational assistance allowance is intended to help students meet school-related and other expenses at the beginning of a semester. It is available to eligible veterans, reservists/guard members and dependents who are enrolled at least half-time, and have not claimed benefits for the full calendar month preceding the start of the semester in which advance payment is requested.

Advance pay may be requested 30 to 120 days BEFORE the beginning of the semester. The advance pay check is sent to the Cashier’s Office, Room 150, Harrison B.Wilson Hall. The student is notified by the NSU Veterans Affairs Office when the check arrives. Subsequent VA educational benefit checks are mailed directly to the student. Students who do not attend for a semester or during the summer are eligible to receive advance pay.

This program is not available for Chapter 31 veterans.

Students who will attend school under the sponsorship of the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Program should make their initial inquiry to the VA by calling the toll-free number
1-800-827-1000.
