Mission Statement
The Norfolk State University Virginia Beach Higher Education Center’s mission statement represents its basic purpose and philosophy as an institution of higher learning and continuing education.
That mission statement is the following: The Norfolk State University Virginia Beach Higher Education Center and Continuing Education Department exist to provide multi-educational services and opportunities for traditional and non-traditional students, as well as lifelong learners throughout the Greater Hampton Roads community and beyond, to help them accomplish their goals, achieve their highest potential, and have a better quality of life.
Numerous credit and non-credit programs, classes, and services are provided for persons seeking a higher level of competence, leadership skills, personal enrichment, professional development, and career enhancement support.
The Center fulfills its mission through the following means:
The Reclamation Project is designed to offer former
Norfolk State University undergraduate students the
opportunity to complete their degree requirements by taking
full advantage of technology, while maintaining the academic
integrity and intellectual rigor of the University.
Military Programs providing on-base educational
services for active duty and retired military personnel,
Department of Defense employees, and civilians leading to
certificates, bachelors, and masters degrees in specific
academic disciplines.
Community and Professional Education provides
dynamic outreach services by extending flexible training
options to business and government partners. Educational
services also provide an array of non-traditional learning
methods to include live and online classroom delivery in a
relaxed environment to meet community needs.
Technology services provide modern computer
laboratory facilities and equipment for training and
technological information.
Library Services “taking the library”
to the students anytime, anywhere via the library on-line
catalog by providing access to library services via the
Internet.
Criminal Justice Master’s Degree Program
addressing the diverse needs of professionals who provide
leadership in the justice system.
Conferences and Seminars to provide a venue for
workshops, professional training, and personal enhancement,
as well as the exchange of ideas.
Front Desk providing outstanding customer
service to all constituents. Additionally, the front desk
provides a visible Norfolk State University presence.
An important goal of the Center is, “To increase the
quality and quantity of off-campus classes and programs.”
