  WINDOWS 7 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

ATTENTION NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY FACULTY AND STAFF

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is very excited about the recent release of Windows 7 and we are committed to the future adoption of this new release as our operating system standard. Accordingly, OIT has recently begun testing Windows 7. While the testing is in its initial phase, the results thus far yield the following:

  • Compatibility issues with various supported desktop applications

  • Compatibility issues with various supported hardware

  • Non-availability of printer drivers for use in many printers in operation campus-wide

For these reasons, and until further testing can be completed, Windows 7 is not supported at this time. OIT will continue its testing of Windows 7, and will soon begin Windows 7 training for our staff so that we will be able to provide excellent customer service on this release in the future.

Additionally, we would like to remind the campus community that Windows XP currently remains as the standard operating system on the various hardware and software platforms here at NSU. We ask that you please keep this in mind when making desktop and laptop purchases. We will provide periodic updates of our testing efforts on this site to keep you abreast of our progress.

We look forward to supporting the new technologies and we appreciate your patience as we make continued progress in our testing.
