To the University Community,
On this very special occasion, which is my first day as president of this truly amazing institution, I salute you and confidently say: This is our time.
Since first stepping foot on this beautiful campus months ago, through every interaction with community members, to this morning as I felt great energy and optimism everywhere I turned, there is no doubt that this is a special place made for special achievements.
To the students, faculty and staff, I want to make sure you know how much I already appreciate you and the time, talent and unique perspectives you each bring. Together, we will advance our academic mission, bring knowledge and innovation to the forefront and ensure the very best Norfolk State University experience for all.
I want to personally convey my sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Melvin T. Stith, Sr., for his leadership as interim president. I appreciate his deep commitment to the success of our University.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the Board of Visitors whose confidence, support and kindness has been nothing short of extraordinary. I look forward to much hard work, and many successes, together.
I simply could not be more proud to join you as the seventh president of Norfolk State University. Mr. Gaston and I have greatly enjoyed our first few days here and already feel right at home as Spartans. I will treasure every opportunity to meet as many campus and community members as possible, and I eagerly await the chance to connect with alumni and friends, near and far.
I remind and invite you to join me in the unwavering belief that: This is our time.
