Ph.D. Program in Materials Science &
Engineering (MS&E)
The Master of Science in Materials Science & Engineering
(MS&E) at Norfolk State University prepares students for careers in industry,
federal or private research laboratories, and academia. The program transitions
students from physical sciences, engineering and related fields into the
discipline of materials with special nano-structures and properties, broadening
their professional opportunities.

Master's Program in Materials Science (MS)
The Master of Science in Materials Science is designed to
provide strong preparation in crystal growth, molecular synthesis, and
characterization of advanced photonic and electronic materials. As an
interdisciplinary program, the M.S. in Materials Science is appropriate for
students with backgrounds in chemistry, materials science, physics or related
engineering disciplines.

Undergraduate Scholarship program
The Center for Materials Research Scholarship Program is funded by the United
States Department of Energy. Each student receives a grant of $3,250.

- As incoming freshmen, recipients may also be invited to
attend a Summer Transition Program. While receiving a stipend of $800,
students in the transition program will participate in academic enrichment
activities and early orientation to university life.
- As upper classmen, selected scholarship students may
receive additional stipends while engaging in any of numerous fields of
research.
CMR Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program at
the Center for Materials Research offers you, as a student majoring in
chemistry, physics or engineering, unique opportunity to participate in
cutting-edge research projects sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Department
