Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship for Leadership and Intercultural Skills (Deadline Extended)

CIEE SUMMER 2019 IN LONDON

To be eligible, applicants must be a first or second year student with evidence of financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. The application includes a transcript, essay, short video, and nomination from a faculty member or senior administrator.

This year, any student who meets the eligibility requirements and submits a complete application can receive a $1500 scholarship whether they are selected for the Fellowship or not. The $1500 grant may be used towards select Summer 2019 programs offered by CIEE in the following destinations: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Cape Town, Paris, and Shanghai.

Summer 2019 Intercultural Communication and Global Leadership Program in Strasbourg, France

June 22-July 25a challenging and innovative 5-week summer study abroad program for the next generation of leaders.  Develop a broader global perspective of the world, understand other cultures and communication styles, improve your leadership skills and achieve confidence, gain international networking opportunities, and discover your professional and personal potential. Program fee: $5,790 (includes housing, courses/credits, and all excursions).  Apply by March 31, 2019 Contact www.studyabroad-france.eu/summer.

​Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

Norfolk State University's Study Abroad program invites students interested in foreign study to apply for the Gilman Scholarship, https://www.gilmanscholarship.org/.  This must be done soon as the Spring 2019 semester (and Eary Decision summer) deadline for submission of all application materials is October 2. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000 (maximum award: $5,000).

Boren Scholarships

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Boren Scholars study less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. For more information, visit http://www.borenawards.org/.

Field Study Summer Program in Thailand

The Institute for International Education is receiving applications for a Thailand-sponsored course (21 June – 20 July 2019) entitled “Thai Community in Globalized Context.” The online application is now open until March 15, 2019. Twenty U.S. students will be accepted for the three-credit course supported by the Thai government.  Tuition, meals, accomodations, field trips, etc. will cost $1800 and round-trip transportation will add approximately $1200, totaling around $3000 for the entire experience that focuses on field trip learning.   To apply, visit the website at: www.thaioverseastudy.com. 

CIEE Grants for Study Abroad

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is partnering with Norfolk State University to make study abroad and internships affordable to students. Freshman and sophomore students who complete and submit applications for the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship, and all students who apply for Gilman International grants, will automatically receive scholarships of $1500 to study abroad at certain 2019 CIEE program locations (Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Cape Town, Amsterdam, and Shanghai).  Stipends for air fare will also be provided.
