Learning Communities

Welcome!

What is a Learning Community?

A learning community is a group of 15-25 first-year students who share a common living space, take classes together, and participate in activities throughout the year based on common interests or major.

Why should I join a learning community?

  • Boost your chances of academic success
  • Networking opportunities
  • Get to know your professors
  • Build peer relationships
  • Out-of-classroom experiences
  • Hands-on learning

About

Learning Communities are specialized groups designed to integrate classroom studies with focused, hands-on academic experiences. The combination of curricular and co-curricular activities inside and outside of the classroom enables students to fully engage in their NSU experience and learn to encounter real world experiences with an interdisciplinary approach.

Students who participate in LCs experience stronger academic and personal success through events and programs, networking, and much more. We offer several varieties of communities that are designed to focus on shared interest, academic goals, or lifestyle preferences. Learn more

The mission of Norfolk State’s Learning Communities is to enhance and integrate student learning and engagement by creating communities of students through shared living, common courses, and co-curricular activities based on a theme or major.
